Some good answers Todd. I can't wait to see this team hit the ice and see how they mesh. I think we have had the largest roster turn over this year so hopefully this guys fit well in the system (they should) and build some chemistry fast. I think it is also interesting to note that if we get the Clowe of previous years we should be alright but if do we get the Clowe of last season it could be troublesome. I have a question though has there been any word on how Larsson has looked size wise? He has a bigger frame I am wondering if he has added more muscle coming into this season and if so how much? Once he puts on some decent weight and strength I think you see his game sky rocket as he won't be worried about getting bowled over like he has on occasion the last two seasons.

In terms of Lou making/ not making any more roster moves, I still think Damien Brunner remains a viable option to join the New Jersey Devils.

I think it's unlikely. Devils D is pretty big-ish, slow, and lacks offense. Urbom is a good defensive defenseman but the Devils need offense and have plenty of options to choose from in that regard. I could see him being called up if a guy like Volchenkov gets hurt.

Elias - Loktionov - Ryder
Tedenby/ Olesz - Henrique - Jagr
Clowe - Zajac - Zubrus
Carter - Gionta - Bernier

Greene - Larsson
Volchenkov - Zidlicky
Salvador - Fayne/Harrold

Brodeur
Schneider

The more I think about it the more I like these lines. We just have 4 solid lines not really a top line but I hope that's the Zajac line.

I honestly can't see how you can split the starts. It's not even freaking close who's the better goalie at the moment. You want Schneider to resign in two years? Start him.

Marty can completely kill a teams forecheck though with his puck playing abilities but for the most part I agree Schneider isnt just better imo he is quite a bit better at this point in their careers.

Yes but can Schneider play 60 games and then a possible another 20 in the playoffs. I'm not saying we get to the cup this year but that is the goal every year is it not? If we split the starts and get in the playoffs both goalies feasibly should be fresh. I didn't watch too many canuck playoff games this past year but didn't he get yanked from a game and replaced by lou in the series?

That hole thing was a circus though. I think you believe he can play sixty games just like you would any other player of his level and age until you see other wise. I get all that Marty has done for this franchise but I wouldn't give him the starting job if Corey is better come season time. I don't want to watch us lose just for the sake of NJ owing the starting job to Marty if anything they should just pay him more then he deserves on his next contract if he decides to play instead of possibly losing games because you owe something to someone. I think we have all learned that its not a good way to run a business. You could argue Parise owed it to NJ to stay with the club that made him captain, traded up to draft him and so on, Kovy owed it to NJ to play out his entire contract after all the Devils went through to get him, Clarkson owed it to the Devils to stick with the team that gave him a shot when almost no one else would. and what happened in everyone of those scenarios ? They all did what they thought was best for them instead of what was best for NJ. (This isn't directed at you) but I am just sick of all we do for guys when most of them dont return the favor frig Marty even held out and tested free agency. Pretty much every good player we have ever had has left besides Patty and Stevens. YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THE TEAM. Marty's jersey will be retired as it should what else should he be owed.

Schneider's save percentage, last 3 years (88 GP): .9310
Martin Brodeur's save percentage, last 3 years (144 GP): .9046

Say whatever you want about systems and shot quality and non-save skills; there's really no way you can close a save percentage gap of 0.0264.

Even if we made a completely preposterous assumption like Vancouver faced 10% easier shot quality than league average and New Jersey faced 10% harder shot quality than league average over the same timeframe (a 22% advantage for Vancouver's goalie), that would only narrow the gap to .923 for Schneider and .913 for Brodeur.

And in order for non-save skills to close a even that save percentage gap, you would have to assume that Brodeur's puckhandling skills alone create or save an extra goal about once every 3 games compared to Schneider.

There's no question Schneider is the better goalie right now, and likely by a very very significant margin. You have to make incredible, unbelievable, irrational assumptions just in order to argue that they're equals in 2013.

I get that Brodeur is the face of the franchise, I get that he's revered in New Jersey, I get that he's a first-ballot hall of famer. But his days as a good NHL starter are up. In fact, they were probably up a few years ago. Continuing to give him meaningful starts now is only hurting the team.

Thanks It is just stuff like that bugs me. I could of went on believe it or not with other players like Sal you can decide but he either got to long of a contract or to much money. I just want the best players to play and I want to win as many games as possible. We also don't have the fire power to be like well we can give him more games because we have enough really good players to still make it worth the risk we COULD have a hell of a time scoring next season I want the best goalie in the net as many games as possible. Are you guys really ok with the idea that we could lose 10-15 more games just because we owe Marty? And He could steal the job but my point is if he isnt as good as Corey he shouldnt be the starter and he shouldnt get the same amount of start and that goes both way if Marty is for some reason better then Corey (unlikely) then he needs to play more.

Marty won't have the workload like he normally does that is why they will split starts. The idea is to keep both fresh and yeah obviously i want the best guy in but you sound like an idiot thinking Marty is automatically going to lose games. Excluding the shortened seasons Marty's last 3 years he has started 59,56, and 77. He's still plenty capable of splitting time and winning games. I expect Schneider to get more starts however saying all this. But not by too much. Realistically it will probably be 5-10 more starts. Which will still be a career high for Schneider and if we make the playoffs it's in our best interest keeping him fresh.

I agree he should be a lot better and fresher with a smaller work load. I also wasn't trying to assume he would lose more it was more of if he isn't better then Corey but gets more starts the risk is there to lose more games because you are playing the worse player more then the better one. I love Marty but he isn't the same player he was 4-5 years ago and the thing I have will every old player not just him is you have to see him play after the off season. No one can predict how any one player will do as they age or if it will be a consistant drop in play or if you go from being a capable goalie then the next year just not have it. Elias even could be a 50 pt player this season we wont know till we see them hit the ice. Just because someone hasn't shown any signs of a drastic slow down doesn't mean it cant happen at an advanced age. There is likely a good chance the both of them are very reliable this season but there is no way to predict it. This is a totally different sport so I expect arguments here but Chuck Liddel showed very little signs of slowing down at his advanced age and then all of a sudden he just didn't have it anymore. I also think I should add that I respect your posts and get along great with you on here and completly see this as nothing more then 2 different opinions I have no hard feelings against you for your thoughts and your reasonings

If healthy, Brodeur and Schneider can be the equivalent of Halak and Elliot for the St. Louis Blues two years ago.

This is just a bias statement. Your comparing the stats of a backup goalie and a starting goalie. Schneider has either backed up or split time with Luongo each of tthe past three seasons. Of course your going to have better stats if you play way less games than another goalies. Its common sense for a goalie in the sport of hockey.

You also don't just kick the best player at his position to ever play the game to the curb.
